LAURA DENYES grew up spending summers at A.R.E. camp in Appalachia where hiking, creek walks, reverie and tie dye were all a way of life. Natural healing, healthy diet and an environment of shared responsibility cultivated a lifelong sense of community and wellness, amongst other principles of Edgar Cayce; founder, healer and spiritual guide. It was here that Laura’s passions for plant identification and living off the land blossomed after a foraging class with Vicki Shufer. Laura is now a botanical photographer, practitioner and student of botanical medicine and manager of her farm businesses, Wish We Had Acres dairy goat farm and Of The Earth Wellness herbal apothecary.

Biography:
Keisha Banks-Thornton received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia and received her Master of Public health degree from Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. She has worked with both children and adults in the clinical setting teaching diabetes and nutrition classes as well as conducting individual counseling and coaching. In addition, she has worked in the public health setting helping individuals become healthier through train the trainer workshops for healthcare professionals.
Having two small children of her own and having a busy daily schedule she understands the challenges when it comes to eating healthy. With a little planning and high motivation, she believes healthy eating is in everyone’s reach.

In this class you will learn some of the medicinal and/or edible qualities of some of the most common herbs that come up in these urban areas. Ex: Dandelion, Wild Lettuce, Violas, Lambs ear and many more!

DR. DAVID HAMILTON, ND (preferably, ‘Dr. Dave’) specializes in botanical medicine, family medicine, pain management, and clinical nutrition. He uses these modalities to best individualize patient care. Dr. Dave uses the energetic and medicinal properties of plants to enhance and individualize treatment to promote health and wellness. Co-owner of Wish We Had Acres, a small dairy goat farm with an emphasis on “Food as Medicine”, Dr. Dave regularly offers botanical medicine classes and herb walks both on the farm and in the greater Charlotte area. By harnessing nature, healthy habits, and the body’s innate ability to heal itself, he is able to individualize each patient’s journey toward health.
